    Athletic Liposculpture

Athletic liposculpture, known by various names such as high-definition lipo, 4D gym lipo, 3D lipo, and abdominal etching, aims to define abdominal muscles. It utilizes liposuction to achieve body contouring.

Several laser technologies have emerged, enabling the dissolution of small fat deposits without suction, as the body reabsorbs them naturally. This method, known as laser lipolysis, is frequently used for cellulite removal.

    Requirements

Candidates must be at least 18 years old. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not undergo liposuction. This surgery is contraindicated for patients with any type of immunosuppression, whether from diseases or medications. Ideal candidates are healthy individuals with fat deposits unresponsive to diet and exercise, considered active people. Those on anticoagulants like aspirin, ibuprofen, or any non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should discontinue use before and after surgery. Patients with good skin elasticity experience the best aesthetic results, making older patients less ideal candidates compared to younger ones.

    Advantages

The main advantage is the removal of fat from areas difficult to target with diet and exercise. Health benefits include a reduced risk of heart problems, cholesterol, cancer, or diabetes. The recovery period is relatively short, with a week before returning to activities, though 15 days of rest is recommended.

    Expected Results

Liposuction results should be realistic as it does not help lose substantial weight nor remove stretch marks or cellulite. It only eliminates small localized fat concentrations, usually up to 10 pounds of fat in the treatment area. Drastic appearance changes should not be expected. Swelling can persist for weeks or months, obscuring surgery results. The skin in the treated area may appear loose as it takes time to adapt to the new figure. Final results are seen after six months.

    Procedure

As with any plastic surgery, a prior medical exam is crucial to detect any contraindications. The type of anesthesia is determined by the team based on the area and volume of fat to be removed. If the affected region is small, regional anesthesia may be used, but this is always the surgeon’s and anesthesiologist’s choice.

    Post-Operative Care

The patient should be accompanied post-procedure as there will be discomfort in the first days. Swelling is noticeable initially, and a post-surgical garment is recommended to reduce swelling, along with medications for pain and infection prevention. Most swelling subsides in the first weeks but can last up to three months for final results. Physical activity should be limited initially, avoiding heavy exercises for the first three weeks. It generally takes about a month to return to normal physical activities. Post-operative swelling is expected, and follow-up visits are crucial to monitor any changes. Aspirin should be avoided post-surgery, and only prescribed medication should be taken. Lymphatic drainage can be initiated after the surgery as indicated.

It is a surgery that defines and highlights muscles by selectively removing fat.

Initial recovery takes 1-2 weeks, with full results in several months.

Pain is moderate and managed with medication.
