Gynecomastia
Introduction
● Gynecomastia is defined as the benign enlargement of glandular breast tissue in men.
● Gynecomastia can occur during adolescence due to hormonal changes typical of puberty. It can also occur in newborns and in adult men as they age. Some causes of gynecomastia, in addition to hormonal changes, include certain medications such as antidepressants, antibiotics, chemotherapy drugs, prostate cancer medications, or steroids.
● Approximately 30% of men experience gynecomastia at some point in their lives.
● The choice of treatment depends on:
- The presence and amount of breast glandular tissue.
- The amount of fatty tissue.
- Excess skin.
● Treatment for gynecomastia is individualized; therefore, we recommend scheduling a consultation with a plastic surgeon from our team to determine the best option for you.
